Occupational Noise Measurement and Hearing Conservation

Occupational noise measurement is essential to assess potentially damaging noise in the workplace. HSE can determine whether a company complies with noise management regulations and, if necessary, help establish a hearing conservation program to protect employees.

All HSE occupational noise measurement is conducted in accordance with CSA standards. The equipment used in noise measurement includes:

CEL 231 Sound Level Meter

This point-and-shoot meter is designed to measure steady noise levels from low-level noise-emitting machinery such as fans, pumps and compressors.

CEL 251 Sound Level Meter

This point-and-shoot meter is designed to measure both steady and fluctuating noise levels. The 251 and 231 meters cannot be used for the measurement of noise for an assessment as they are not integrating sound-level meters.

CEL 360/460 Personal Noise Dosimeters

This meter is designed to measure the actual noise dose, eight-hour projected dose, and relevant time-weighted average (TWA) values using the correct thresholds and criterion levels. All information is stored in the instrument and can be downloaded for proper interpretation.

CEL 573 Octave Band Analyzer and Environmental Noise Meter

This meter can be used to measure noise at different frequencies and to pinpoint noise-source problems.
