Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

HSE’s medical services can provide industrial and other clients reliable and easily accessible onsite emergency medical care. Our emergency medical services ensure that customers are in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) codes and corporate standards.

The HSE EMS package includes:

  • Rapid response for industrial disasters including fires and rescues
  • First-response treatment for accident victims and transportation to the appropriate medical facility
  • Various levels of medical care from first aid to advanced life support, with all attendants certified by relevant provincial licensing authorities
  • HSE’s medical service units are also available to municipal or regional health authorities in instances where the magnitude or scale of an emergency event overwhelms the existing EMS infrastructure.
  • New ambulances equipped with state-of-the-art life saving equipment, GPS and four-wheel drive for access to remote locations

Standby Medical Services

HSE provides a wide range of standby medical services for worksites or events that require the presence of medical expertise and equipment on site in the event of an emergency. We offer all levels of service from first aid to advanced life support, and can meet the standards of our clients and regulatory bodies. We offer:

  • Medical personnel for remote locations or high-hazard work
  • Onsite services for seismic work and pipeline projects
  • Special event coverage where immediate medical response may be required, such as concerts and sporting events
  • Medical backup to for high-hazard plant turnaround operations
  • Semi-permanent onsite first aid rooms and field hospitals
  • Various levels of medical care from first aid to advanced life support, with all attendants certified by relevant provincial licensing authorities

Medical Services Vehicles

HSE has mobile medical units designed and equipped to meet our clients’ site-specific requirements:

Medical Treatment Center (MTC)
This 4 X 4 unit is equipped to provide basic life support (BLS) or advanced life support (ALS) and is able to transport two injured workers at a time.

Emergency Transport Vehicle (ETV)
This state-of-the-art modular ambulance provides BLS and ALS in instances where the transportation of injured workers may be required. All HSE units are equipped with four-wheel drive, meet or exceed OH&S regulations.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

HSE’s drug and alcohol testing ensures a safer work environment. Absenteeism, injury to self and others, workers’ compensation field claims and liability insurance costs can all be controlled with testing.

Specimen collection is handled by HSE staff or reputable third-party agencies. Drug and alcohol tests can be administered routinely, or in conjunction with post-accident/incident investigations.
