PSAC Community Partners: Guiding Principles
Community Partners is an industry-wide program designed to strengthen the oil and gas industry's social license to operate. The program focuses worker attention on local concerns related to oil and gas activity – dust, gates, garbage, noise, driving safety and traffic. It also reminds oil and gas workers and contractors to communicate openly with area residents, and treat them and their property with respect.
HSE Integrated Ltd. is pleased to promote the Community Partners initiative undertaken by seven oil and gas industry trade associations to strengthen relationships between the oil and gas industry and the community. HSE became involved with the program through our long-standing membership in of one of the sponsor groups: the Petroleum Services Industry Association of Canada (PSAC).
The Community Partners initiative was established to address the results of a 2009 survey of 12 western Canadian communities. The survey identified three areas in which relationships between the oil patch and the community can be improved: communication with residents; community livability; and environmental protection.
The resulting program focuses on promoting the attention of individual workers on local communities’ concerns. This includes a range of issues from having workers close gates behind them, to traffic safety. It emphasizes such principles as courtesy and respect for private property and open communication between industry representatives and residents.
