HSE Nova Scotia WCB Safety Certified

HSE Integrated is certified by the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia to conduct independent audits of our clients’ workplace health and safety systems to achieve a Certification of Recognition (COR). This certificate is required for any company wishing to bid on work for the Nova Scotia provincial government, and is fast becoming a requirement for other major companies, universities and municipalities.

HSE’s COR program focuses on altering our clients’ corporate safety culture rather than just issuing a piece of paper. It gives management the tools to make positive changes by encouraging all employees to accept responsibility for safety. This in turn reduces injuries, especially among those new to the workplace.

A COR audit assesses 14 elements of a company’s health and safety management system:

  • OH&S policy and management responsibilities
  • Hazard identification and control
  • Rules and safe work practices/job procedures
  • Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee / safety representative
  • Training and communication
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Incident / accident reporting and investigation
  • Ergonomics
  • Maintenance
  • Records and statistics
  • Specialized work permits
  • Housekeeping / work area
  • Awards and recognition
  • Health and hygiene

Why Choose HSE as Your COR Auditor?

HSE meets the requirements established by the Certificate of Recognition Standard – 2006 and the Specification of Quality Programs for the Certificate of Recognition Standards as governed by the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia.

Our auditors can advise whether companies that have obtained a COR certificate from another province will have to undertake a new audit in Nova Scotia. While the audit is being conducted, HSE will issue an “in-process” letter to confirm that the client has already begun the audit process; this is often accepted in lieu of a COR certificate for bidding purposes

All our auditors have successfully completed the Auditing Your Safety Program course at Dalhousie University.

We will describe the COR audit process, the time involved, the cost, and the benefits.

HSE auditors have experience in conducting audits in many industries

We offer two COR audit options:

  • Option 1 (more than 5 employees): external audit  at least every three years, with internal audits every year
  • Option 2 (fewer than 5 employees): internal audit every year, no external audit
